Preserving and promoting our state’s cultural heritage is key to the CCI mission. We help communities discover their cultural treasures and celebrate their unique cultural heritage. We also assist Colorado traditional artists in presenting, preserving and finding funding for their work.
What do we mean by cultural heritage? Typically we mean the folk or traditional arts (music, dance, craft, verbal arts) practiced by groups of people who share a common ethnic heritage, language, religion, occupation, geographic region or way of life. These artistic traditions are often taught within a family over many generations or within a trade or ethnic culture.
Our cultural heritage specialist is an expert in discovering and preserving our state’s traditional artists and art forms. She helps communities identify, honor and celebration regional cultural traditions. For information or assistance contact Ronna Lee Sharpe at rsharpe@westcomuseum.org.
