cultural heritage

Folk and traditional arts (music, dance, craft, verbal arts, for example) are practiced by groups of people who share a common ethnic heritage, language, religion, occupation, geographic region or way of life. These artist traditions are often taught within a family over many generations or within a trade or ethnic culture. The Council helps communities preserve and promote their cultural heritage by helping to identify a region’s folk and traditional artists and art forms; celebrate cultural traditions through festivals, programs or publications; and preserve endangered traditions through documentation and archiving.

In Communities Learn how communities are discovering their cultural treasures and celebrating their unique cultural heritage.

In the Classroom The "Ties That Bind" toolkit helps teachers meet standards in history, geography, reading and writing, visual art, music, and even math with new materials that engage both teachers and students.
